The Associació Antic Gremi de Revenedors, 1447 annually awards the Antic Gremi Revenedors de Barcelona Research Grant to promote research, study, and the expansion of knowledge regarding the labor history of Barcelona and this entity, founded in the 15th century and still operational today. The grant is awarded to the best unpublished project dedicated to exploring a specific period, theme, or event in the city’s history or the Gremi de Tenders Revenedors de Barcelona between 1447 and 1850, with a €5,000 prize.
The 2021 winning project is Guilds in arms in modern Barcelona (1640-1714). The Consell de Cent, the Coronela, and the Guild of Retailers Defending the Cityby Víctor Jurado Riba. It proposes an in-depth study of the defensive functions of the Barcelona urban militia, its structure, and its various roles in public service during both wartime and peacetime. Special attention is given to the members of the Retailers’ company within the various guild-based military groups.
